இலங்கையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கும் ராணுவத்துக்கும் நடந்த போர் முடிந்து ஓராண்டு நிறைவடையும் இந்த நேரத்தில் வேறொரு விதமான தாக்குதலை தமிழர்கள் மீது தொடுத்திருக்கிறது ராஜபட்ச அரசு.தமிழர்கள் உள்ளிட்ட சிறுபான்மை மக்களுக்கு கெüரவமான பிரதிநிதித்துவம் அளித்துவந்த விகிதாசார பிரதிநிதித்துவ முறையைக் கைவிடுவதற்கு இப்போதுள்ள அரசியல் சட்டத்தைத் திருத்துவது என்பதுதான் அது.இந்தியா உள்ளிட்ட நாடுகளில் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்படும், தொகுதியில் அதிக வாக்குகள் பெற்று முதலிடம் பிடிக்கும் வேட்பாளரே வெற்றியாளர் என்ற தேர்தல் முறைக்கு இலங்கையும் மாறவிருக்கிறது.மேலோட்டமாகப் பார்க்கும்போது இதில் என்ன குறை என்றே கேட்கத் தோன்றும். இந்தியாவைப் போல பல்வேறு மொழி, இன குழுக்கள் அதிக எண்ணிக்கையில் இல்லை என்றாலும் இலங்கையில் சிங்களர், தமிழர்கள், முஸ்லிம்கள் என்ற 3 இனங்களே முக்கியமானவை. கல்வியிலும் பொருளாதாரத்திலும் முன்னேறிய கடும் உழைப்பாளிகளின் வளர்ச்சியை சிங்களர்களால் சகித்துக் கொள்ள முடியாமல் போனதால்தான் அங்கு இனப் பகையே மூண்டது.இப்போது தமிழர்களின் பகுதிகளில் சிங்களர்களைக் குடியமர்த்தும் நடவடிக்கைகள் நேரடியாகவும் மறைமுகமாகவும் வேகவேகமாக நடந்து வருகின்றன. அதற்காகவே இன்னமும் ஏராளமான தமிழர்கள் முள்வேலி முகாம்களில் அடைத்து வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். வடக்கிலும் கிழக்கிலும் தமிழர்கள் விட்டுவிட்டுப் போன ஊர்களிலும் வீடுகளிலும் இப்போது சிங்களர்கள் குடியிருக்கின்றனர். விவசாயம் செய்யவும் அவர்களுக்கு நிலங்கள் தரப்படுகின்றன. இந்தப் பின்னணியில்தான் விகிதாசாரப் பிரதிநிதித்துவத்துக்கு முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைத்து, அதிக வாக்குகள் பெற்ற வேட்பாளரை வெற்றியாளராக அறிவிக்க சட்டம் திருத்தப்படுகிறது. தமிழர்களின் பகுதிகளில்கூட சிங்கள வேட்பாளர் அதிக எண்ணிக்கையில் வாக்குகளைப் பெறுவது என்பது இனி சாத்தியமே. சிங்களர்களைக் குடியேற்றுவதால் மட்டும் உடனடியாக இதைச் சாதிக்க முடியாது என்பதால், இப்போதுள்ள நாடாளுமன்ற, சட்டமன்றத் தொகுதிகளையும் பிரித்து மறுவரையறை செய்யும் பணியும் தொடங்கவிருக்கிறது.அதில் தமிழர்கள் நெருக்கமாக வசிக்கும் பகுதி ஒரே தொகுதிக்குள் வராமல் சிங்களர்கள் பெரும்பான்மையினராக உள்ள தொகுதிகளில் பரவலாகச் சேர்க்கப்படும் முயற்சிகள் தொடங்கிவிட்டன.225 உறுப்பினர்களைக் கொண்ட இலங்கை நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் தமிழர்களுக்குப் பிரதிநிதித்துவம் குறைந்துவிடுமே என்று கூறுவோருக்குப் பதில் அளிக்கவே, 25 உறுப்பினர்களைக் கொண்ட செனட் என்ற மேலவையைக் கொண்டு வரப்போவதாக அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது. இதில் அறிஞர்களும்,சிறுபான்மைக் குழுக்களின் பிரதிநிதிகளும் இடம் பெறுவர் என்கிறது அரசு. இதில் அரசின் நியமன உறுப்பினர்களும் இருப்பார்கள்.என்னதான் பிரதிநிதித்துவம் தரப்பட்டாலும் இந்த அவைக்கு அதிகாரங்கள் குறைவுதான். எனவே இதில் இடம் பெறுகிறவர்கள் அமைச்சர்களாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டாலும் கூட இந்த அவையின் அந்தஸ்து என்பது நாடாளுமன்றத்தைப் போல இல்லை என்பது வெளிப்படை.அதிபராக இருப்பவர் இருமுறைதான் அந்தப் பதவிக்கு வர முடியும் என்று இப்போதுள்ள அரசியல் சட்டத்தைத் திருத்தவும் நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்படுகின்றன. இது, இப்போதுள்ள அதிபர் மகிந்த ராஜபட்சவை ஆயுள்கால அதிபராக்கும் முயற்சி என்றே கூறிவிடலாம்.இந்த திருத்தங்களின் நோக்கம் எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்த நிலையில், இனப் பிரச்னைக்குத் தீர்வு காணும் நோக்கில்தான் இந்த நடவடிக்கைகள் என்று இலங்கை அரசு கூறுவதுதான் இரக்கமற்ற நகைச்சுவை.இலங்கை இனப் பிரச்னைக்கு அரசியல் தீர்வு காண ராஜீவ் காந்தியும் ஜெயவர்த்தனவும் செய்துகொண்ட ஒப்பந்தம் பற்றி இப்போது பேச்சே கிடையாது.தமிழர்களை இலங்கை மீது உரிமையுள்ள இனமாக அங்கீகரிக்கும் பேச்சோ, வடக்கும் - தெற்கும் அவர்களுடைய பாரம்பரிய தாயகம் என்பதை ஒப்புக்கொள்ளும் பெருந்தன்மையோ, தமிழர்களின் பகுதிகளுக்கு அதிக அதிகாரங்களை வழங்கி வளப்படுத்தும் நோக்கமோ, வடக்கையும் தெற்கையும் இணைத்து தமிழர்களின் கோரிக்கைகளை முழுமையாக இல்லாவிடினும் ஆறுதல் கொள்ளும் வகையிலாவது நிறைவேற்றும் நல்லெண்ணமோ இலங்கை அரசுக்கு இல்லை என்பது அப்பட்டமாக வெளிப்படுகிறது.இந்த நிலையில்,கல்வியிலும் வேலைவாய்ப்பிலும் தமிழர்களுக்கு இலங்கை அரசு எத்தகைய சலுகைகளையும் சமவாய்ப்புகளையும் இனி அளிக்கப்போகிறது என்பது மிகப்பெரிய கேள்விக்குறியாக இருக்கிறது.தமிழர்களைத் தங்களுடைய சகோதரர்களாக பாவிக்காமல் எதிரிகளாகவே கருதுகிறது இலங்கை அரசு என்று அதன் சில நடவடிக்கைகள் உணர்த்துகின்றன.ராணுவத்துடனான போரில் இறந்த வீரர்களின் சமாதிகளை வடக்கிலும் கிழக்கிலும் அமைத்த விடுதலைப் புலிகள், மாவீரர் தினத்தில் அவர்களுக்கு அஞ்சலி செலுத்திவந்தனர். இப்போது அந்தச் சமாதிகளை இடித்து அப்புறப்படுத்திவிட்டு இலங்கை ராணுவ வீரர்களுக்கு நினைவிடங்களை அமைத்து வருகிறது இலங்கை அரசு. தமிழர்களோடு சமரசமாகப் போக வேண்டிய அவசியமும்கூட, கடமையும் தங்களுக்கு இருப்பதாக இலங்கை அரசு கருதவில்லை என்பதையே இந்தச் செயல்கள் உணர்த்துகின்றன.இலங்கையில் இப்போது நிலவும் அதிபர் ஆட்சிமுறை என்பதே பெரும்பான்மையினரின் ஆட்சிமுறை என்பதுதான் உண்மை. பெரும்பான்மை சிங்களவரின் ஆதரவைப் பெற்றால் மட்டுமே, அமெரிககாவில் பராக் ஒபாமா அதிபரானதுபோல, ஒரு தமிழர் இலங்கையின் அதிபராக முடியும். இப்போது நாடாளுமன்றத்திலும் தமிழர்களும் சிறுபான்மையினரும் குரலெழுப்ப முடியாத நிலைமைக்கு புதிய அரசியல் சட்டத்திருத்தம் வழிகோலப் போகிறது.இத்தனைக்கும்பிறகு இந்திய அரசு இது அன்னிய நாட்டு விவகாரம் என்று தலையிடாமல் தவிர்ப்பது ஏன் என்பதும், அப்பாவி ஈழத் தமிழர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாகச் செயல்படத் தயங்குவது ஏன் என்பதும் புதிராக இருக்கிறது. "விடுதலைப் புலிகளைத்தான் எதிர்க்கிறோம். அப்பாவி ஈழத் தமிழர்களை அல்ல' என்று சொன்னதெல்லாம் பொய்தானே?தமிழனென்று சொல்லடா தலைநிமிர்ந்து நில்லடா.

ராஜீவ் காந்தியின் தீபாவளிக் கொண்டாட்டம்...! 

1987 ம் ஆண்டு ஈழத்தமிழர் வாழ்வில் நிறையவே நடைபெற்றது. இந்தியா அமைதிப்படை என்ற போர்வையில் ஒரு அழிப்புப்படையை ஏவிவிட, அது விடுதலைப்புலிகளை அழிக்கிறோம் என்ற போர்வையில் அப்பாவிகளை பலியெடுத்தது. விமானத்தில் இருந்து முதலில் உணவுப்பொட்டலங்கள். பின்னர் ஒப்பந்தம். திலீபனின் உயிர் பறிப்பு. குமரப்பா, புலேந்திரன் உட்பட பன்னிரு வேங்கைகளின் தீருவில் தீ. முதல் பெண் மாவீரர் ஆகி மாலதி மரணம். இன்னும் இன்னும். அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாய் அப்பாவிகள் மீதான படுகொலை.

ஒக்ரோபர் 21, 1987 அன்று பாரத மக்கள் ஏன் அனைத்து இந்து மக்களும் நரகாசுரனை வதம் செய்த தீபாவளி திருநாளை குதூகலமாக கொண்டாடுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் யாழ்ப்பாணக் குடாநாடோ சோபையிழந்து அந்நிய இராணுவத்தின் அகோரப்பிடிக்குள் அகப்பட்டு சின்னாபின்னமாகி கொண்டிருந்தது. யாழ்ப்பாண கோட்டையில் இருந்து இந்திய இராணுவம் வடக்கு நோக்கி ஒரு முன்னேற்ற முயற்சியில் இறங்கியது. அதற்கு ஆதரவாக கோட்டையில் இருந்து செறிவான எறிகணைத் தாக்குதல் நடாத்தப்படுகிறது. அது யாழ்ப்பாணத்தின் எல்லாப் பாகங்களிலும் விழுந்து வெடிக்கிறது. மக்கள் அல்லோலகல்லோலப்பட்டு அலறியடித்துக்கொண்டு ஓடுகிறார்கள். நிறைய எறிகணைகள் யாழ் மருத்துவமனையை பதம் பார்க்கிறது. பாதுகாப்புக்கு வைத்தியசாலை சிறந்தது என் எண்ணி அதற்குள் ஏராளமானோர் நுழைகிறார்கள். மதியம் ஆரம்பித்த தாக்குதல் இடைவெளி இன்றி தொடர்கிறது.

இப்போது எறிகணைகள் மருத்துவமனையின் நோயாளர் விடுதிகளிலும் வீழ்ந்து வெடிக்கிறது. எல்லோரும் கதறியழுதவாறு சிதறி ஓடுகிறார்கள். சிலர் மேல்மாடியில் இருக்கும் எக்ஸ்ரே அலுவலக அறைக்கும், வைத்தியசாலை அலுவலக அறைக்கும் ஓடுகிறார்கள். மேல்மாடி என்பதால் பாதுகாப்புக்கு உகந்தது என எண்ணியிருக்க கூடும். இதற்குள் காயம் அடைந்தவர்கள் ஒருபுறம். உயிர் பிரிந்த உடலமாக கிடந்தவர்கள் ஒருபுறம். மாலை 4.40 மணியளவில் இராணுவம் மேற்கு பக்கமாக வைத்தியசாலைக்குள் நுழைகிறது. ஊழியர்கள் தமது சீருடைகளை தரித்து நிற்கின்றனர். மருத்துவர்களும் தத்தமது உடைகளை அணிந்து அச்சத்துடன் செய்வதறியாது நிற்கின்றனர். இராணுவம் சுட்டபடி உள்ளே நுழைகிறது.

"நாங்கள் ஊழியர்கள்" என்று ஆங்கிலத்தில் ஊழியர்கள் கத்துகிறார்கள். நாங்கள் "சிவிலியன்ஸ்" எனப் பொதுமக்கள் கத்துகிறார்கள். இரத்த வெறி பிடித்த இந்திய இராணுவத்திற்கு இது விளங்குமா? சுட்டுத்தள்ளுகிறது. ஐயோ அம்மா! முருகா! முருகா!! என குழறல் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது. பின்னர் சூட்டுச் சத்தம். இப்போது அந்த குழறல் சத்தங்கள் அடங்குகிறது. நிலைமை மோசமாகிவிட்டதை உணர்ந்த அப்பாவி நோயாளர்கள் இங்கும் அங்கும் திகிலுடன் ஓடுகிறார்கள். அங்கே நின்ற ஒரு சிறுவனும் (வயது 15) சிதறி ஓடுகிறான். அவனது தந்தை ஒரு வைத்தியசாலை ஊழியர். இப்படி ஒவ்வொரு விடுதியாக இராணுவம் நுழைந்து தனது மிலேச்சத்தனமான கைவரிசையை காட்டி கொண்டிருக்க இருள் சூழ்ந்து கொண்டது. எல்லோரையும் பயம் கவ்விக்கொண்டது. செய்வதறியாது கட்டில்களுக்கு கீழே படுத்தவர்களும், இறந்தவர்களோடு இறந்தவர்களாக பாவனை செய்து படுத்தவர்களும் என நோயாளர்கள் உயிரை கையில் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தனர். இரவு எங்காவது காயம் அடைந்தவர்களின் முனகல்சத்தம் கேட்கும். அந்த இடத்தை நோக்கி 'டுமீல்' 'டுமீல்' என துப்பாக்கி ரவை பாயும். பின்னர் அந்த சத்தம் அடங்கி விடும். இவ்வாறு அன்று இரவு முழுவதும் முனகல் சத்தமும் பின்னர் சூட்டுச் சத்தமும் நடந்தது. ஏன் என கேட்காமல் அப்பாவிகளை சுட்டுத்தள்ளி தனது கொலைவெறிகளை தீர்த்துக்கொண்டது.

அடுத்தநாள் காலை விடிந்தது(22-10-1987). காலை 8மணியளவில யாரோ ஒரு பெரியவர் இராணுவத்துடன் நோயாளர்களுக்காகவும் நிலைமைகளுக்காகவும் வாதாடினார். பின்னர் வழமைபோல சூட்டுச்சத்தம். ஆட்கள் அலறித்துடித்தபடி வீழ்ந்தனர். அவர் வேறுயாருமல்ல வைத்திய நிபுணர், கலாநிதி அ.சிவபாதசுந்தரம். அவரோடு இறந்தது சில தாதிமார்கள். இச்சத்தம் எல்லா விடுதிகளுக்கும் கேட்டது. மிகுதியாக உயிருடன் இருந்தவர்களை இது உலுப்பி எடுத்தது. என்ன நடக்கும் என அச்சத்தில் இருந்தார்கள்.

10.30 மணி உயிருடன் இருப்பவர்களை கைகளை உயர்த்தியபடி வெளியே வரச்சொல்கிறது இராணுவம். அச்சத்துடன் எல்லோரும் என்னநடக்குமோ என எண்ணியபடி வெளியே வருகிறார்கள். அங்கே இறந்த உடல்கள் எல்லாம் பனங்கிழங்கு அடுக்கியது போல கிடந்தது. வீங்கிய உடல்கள். சிதறிய உறுப்புகள் என பார்ப்பதற்கு கோரமாக இருந்தது. அதற்குள் காயப்பட்டு குறை உயிரில் இருந்தவர்களும் அடங்குவர். அந்த சிறுவனும் நண்பனும் வெளியே வருகிறார்கள். அவனுடைய தாயாருடன் ஒரு தம்பி முன்னே செல்வதை காண்கிறான். வெளியே செல்கிறான். ஆனால் அவனது தந்தையாரையும் இரண்டு தம்பிமாரையும் காணவில்லை. எண்ணங்கள் பலவாறாக ஓடுகிறது அவனுக்கு. விறாந்தையில் கிடந்த உடல்கள் இரத்தவெள்ளத்தில் கிடந்தது. இரத்தவாடை மிக மோசமாக இருந்தது. உடலங்களுக்கும், இரத்தவெள்ளத்திற்குள்ளாலும் எல்லோரும் வெளியே வருகிறார்கள். கைகளை கூப்பியபடி கிடக்கும் உடலங்கள் (கும்பிட கும்பிட சுட்டிருப்பார்கள்), மகனை கட்டியணைத்தபடி கிடக்கும் தாய், தந்தை உடலம் என மிகவும் உருக்கமாகவும் கோரமாகவும் காட்சியளித்தது.

அவன் தந்தையை தேடினான். எங்கும் காணவில்லை. இரவு சம்பவத்தில் கொல்லப்பட்டவர்களில் உற்வினர் இருந்தால் பார்ப்பதற்கு அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டனர். அவனும் சென்று பார்க்கிறான். அங்கே அவனது தந்தையின் உயிரற்ற உடலத்தைப் பார்க்கிறான். திகைத்துப்போகிறான். தம்பிமாரை காணவில்லை. அங்கே காயமடைந்த ஒருவர் சொல்கிறார், "தம்பி உங்கள் அப்பா காயமடைந்த ஒருவர் தண்ணீர் கேட்ட போது, மேசையில் இருக்கும் தண்ணீரை எடுத்துக் கொடுக்க முயன்ற வேளை சிப்பாய் ஒருவனால் சுடப்பட்டு இறந்தார். மனம் கொதித்தான். இருந்தும் நிலைமை மோசம். என்ன செய்ய முடியும்.

இனி தகனக்கிரியைகளை நடத்தவேண்டும் என ஒரு வைத்தியரை அணுகிகேட்க, அவரும் இராணுவத்துடன் தொடர்பு கொண்டார். பிரேத அறைக்கு அருகில் இருந்த வெளியில் எல்லோர் சடலங்களையும் அடுக்கி வைத்திருந்தனர். அந்த சிறுவனின் தந்தையின் உடலை ஒரு கரையாக வைத்து தீயை மூட்ட சொன்னார்கள். அவனும் தீயை மூட்டினான். அவனை கொண்டே ஏனைய உடல்களுக்கும் தீ மூட்டுவித்தனர். எல்லோர் உடல்களும் தீயுடன் சங்கமமாகியது. 15வயது சிறுவன் 70ற்கு மேற்பட்ட உடலங்களுக்கு தீ வைக்கிறான். இந்த கொடுமை எங்கும் நடக்குமா.

ஒருமாதத்தின் பின்னர் அவனது தம்பியரைக் கண்டுபிடித்தான் அந்த சிறுவன். அவர்கள் கூறினர். "உங்களை இராணுவம் சுடத்தான் (22.10.1987 காலை) கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போறான் என நினைத்து, நாம் காயப்பட்டவர்களுடன் கிடந்து பின்னர் நல்லூரிற்கு தப்பி ஓடி வந்தோம் என்றனர்.

இந்திய இராணுவத்தின் இந்த காட்டுமிராண்டித்தனத்தால் 70 ற்கு மேற்பட்ட அப்பாவிப் பொதுமக்கள் சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டணர். அவர்களில் 23 வைத்தியசாலை ஊழியர் அடங்குவர். மூன்று சிறப்பியல் வைத்திய நிபுணர்களும் அடங்குவர். விபரம்....

இன்று அந்த சிறுவன் ஒரு விடுதலைப் போராளி. எவைகள் எமது போராளிகளை உருவாக்குகின்றன். எவைகள் எமது விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தை விரைவு படுத்தும் என்பதற்கு இவை சான்றுகள்.

ஈழத்தமிழர் வாழ்வில் நடைபெற்ற இந்த துன்ப நிகழ்வுகளின் பதிவுகள் தொடரும்....!

இதே தினத்தில் கொல்லப்பட்ட அனைவருக்கும் எமது கண்ணீர்ப்பூக்களை காணிக்கையாக்குகின்றோம்.

A military surge brings predictions of defeat for Tamil Tiger separatists. But many missing are among the casualties of the quarter-century conflict, and there could be more.

Reporting from Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka -- The white tattered strips line the main road to Kuliyapitiya, hanging off telephone poles and fence posts, each one signifying another funeral, another loss, another hole punched in the heart of a family. A few miles away, in the center of town, ribbons of another sort decorate the chest of a commando at a recruiting post working to impress a group of teenage boys. 

A recent surge by the Sri Lankan army, boosted by an aggressive expansion of its forces, has prompted the government to predict that victory is just around the corner in its 25-year war with the Tamil Tiger rebels who have sought to carve out a homeland in the north and east of this island nation.

Amid the rising euphoria, however, some question whether these hardened fighters will go away that easily, whether the human toll will really end, whether the white ribbons will stop fluttering at every turn.

Sri Lanka has paid a huge price, in economic loss, social and political strain, destroyed infrastructure and human lives, for its long civil war. Almost everyone in this nation of 20 million has been touched. 

But it's the rice- and coconut-growing areas such as Kuliyapitiya district with its 150,000 population that have paid the highest toll. The government's all-volunteer army has found fertile ground for recruiting in rural areas where job prospects are limited and the army offers adventure, a uniform and a decent paycheck of about $200 a month. "Join the winning side," says a nationwide radio advertisement.

Recently, funerals in these parts have been running about two or three a week, said Chandana Bulathsinhala, an aide to the local opposition lawmaker, adding steadily, relentlessly, to the area's estimated 5,000 casualties since the war's inception -- a staggering one in 30 people. 

Bulathsinhala estimates that 99% of the recruits sign up for economic reasons, with many schoolchildren now wanting to be soldiers rather than doctors or lawyers.

"War is always cruel, but the media has promoted good war news, so more people are encouraged to join," he said.

As families in the community confront the human toll, the war machine continues to draw in new recruits. At the Kuliyapitiya Urban Council complex in town, a bus ringed with loudspeakers and posters of fighting men lures new enthusiasts.

"When you come to the interview, bring your stuff and be ready to go," advises a nearby poster showing a soldier in a Rambo-style pose. 

A few miles away, Kusuma Gunawardana sits on a hard bed trying to make sense of it all, a cat curled at her side, tears running down her worn face. Her son, a soldier in the Sri Lankan army, has been missing since mid-January. Nationwide, the missing number in the thousands, the result of desertions, front lines that have shifted repeatedly and dense jungle that can decompose a body in rapid order.

Nor is she sure she can believe what the government news channels say. Her older son, also in the army, told her the situation is often significantly different from the rosy images beamed on the channels. She just wants her family back. "I can't think about what happened to my son," she said. "I believe he's still alive."

Down the road, Jayantha Perera, 33, has doubts about a quick end to the war, but for different reasons. It's been going on so long that to him the wrapping-up seems too fantastic. As he talks in a living room decorated with a military calendar and the family's foot-powered sewing machine, he remembers the pride he felt when his older brother Samantha left for the war. 

Samantha hasn't been heard from in more than a decade and is presumed dead, one of the 4,000 soldiers and 12,000 Sri Lankan civilians and fighters with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam missing in the war, according to estimates by the Assn. of War Affected Women, a civic group based in the city of Kandy.

As he talks, Perera's aging father suddenly erupts into a wail of grief. It happens two or three times a day, Perera says; he's been on a downward slide since his son's disappearance. The family no longer keeps pictures of Samantha around, except for one fading shot of his regiment, to avoid upsetting his father even more. 

Farther down the back roads of the community, posters glorify those who died as placards urge citizens to donate blood, using pictures of neighbors who have already signed up and shipped out as an incentive. "Brother you have not died, you bloom as a flower among us," reads a poster marking the death of a commando who died recently at Elephant Pass. 

A few feet from the commando with a chestful of ribbons, Koolitha Manchanayaka, 19, waits by the recruiting bus talking to friends after signing up. The teenager is accompanied by his father and a cousin and is ready to fulfill a dream he's had since he was 17. 

His parents were reluctant to let him go, he said, but he eventually persuaded them after promising to be careful. For added security, he wears a pirith cord, a string worn around the wrist, blessed by monks at a nearby Buddhist temple.

Sure, there is a risk that he will be captured or killed, he said. "It could happen to anyone, but I'm not scared," he said, his eyes alight with excitement. "This is the right time to go. If I'm not involved at this decisive time, there's no point."

The military added 40,000 recruits in each of the last two years, said Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara, a military spokesman, to reach the current 180,000 level for the armed forces.

Those with missing family members receive a death settlement after one year of about $750 for single soldiers and $1,500 for married, along with other pension and insurance payouts.

Laborer K.G. Salen Fernando, 63, of Galkapuyaya village, said his family didn't receive anything from the government when his son disappeared 17 years ago.

A decade or so back, the family finally conceded that their boy wasn't coming back, he said. But without ever seeing his body, the realization was very difficult to accept. "He died for the sake of the country, so I'm proud," the father said, through a toothless jaw. "But they didn't even give us 5 cents. We'd be happy if they paid us something."

Visaka Dharmadasa, the founder of the Assn. of War Affected Women, said the disappearance of one of her sons eight years ago was the catalyst for starting the group, which aims to make the government and the International Committee of the Red Cross more accountable on MIA issues. 

The association now numbers 2,000 members. Even though it's been nearly a decade since she last saw her missing son, she said she still waits expectantly. "There's always hope," she said. "It's not going to help anyone when you deny the existence of a person."

Gunawardana's agony is still fresh, as she reflects on Tamil mothers on the other side who must be experiencing some of the same pain.

"In the north, they're going through the same suffering we have," she said. "We are running out of boys in this country. We don't need a war with the north to lose more children."

I recently called my aunt in Mannar, she says they are unaware of whats happening in SL..coz of entire MEDIA black-out.

One must understand the actual intend of SL Govt..

Systematically, they trying to destabilize instutitions either by issuing direct threats or intimidating them.

If a govt could issue threat to Foreigners, diplomats and INGOs, even denying UN to setup its office, threatening ICRC of dire consequences if its presence in vanni is found....what do you call this?

International community still wants evidence to raise its voice...For UN, the news is very minimal to act upon it...UN Secretary General endorses the Action of SL president based on the assurances he is giving.

What happened to all the INTERNATIONAL PACTS?. who first torn into pieces?. Why International community keeps its mouth shut when all that happened?

When there is clear evidence of Mass killings and systemic and systematic Genocide..there is nobody to raise their concern...

I know, the Entire world would come once everything been done and no one living in vanni.

If we go by SL Govts statements made about number of LTTE present in vanni...one would surely raise a question...how LTTE being in hundreds could manage this huge number of stranded people in vanni?. Even if they are armed, whats the possibility of holding them back? getting them moved along with them while they retreated from kili to mullai to puthukudiyiruppu...

Oh !! Is there no genuine intellectual who could raise it to the world to hear?.

We all know LTTE is outnumbered by SLA..and why should they bomb every inch of vanni?. Can't this "so called" world's best army as boasted by SL Govt, could blow them away with their mighty army in a jiffy?. Why should they resort to bombing of civilians?.

What more clear evident needed to take action against Srilankan top executives, when Defence Secretary openly justifies "bombing of hospital as legitimate target"...what more evidence the WORLD wants to take action...

Its really frustrating to LIVE begging these eunuchs (UN,INDIA,co-chairs) to take action...

சிங்கள அரசு தமிழீழத்தில் நடத்திவரும் இனப் படுகொலையைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தக்கோரி, தமிழகத் தின் பல்வேறு பிரிவு மக்களும் பல வகையான போராட் டங்களின் மூலம் தங்கள் உணர்வுகளை வெளிப்படுத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

அ.தி.மு.க., காங்கிரஸ் தவிர்த்துத் தமிழகத்தின் அனைத்துக் கட்சித் தலைவர்களும் ஒன்றுபட்டுப் போர்நிறுத்தம் கோரியதோடு மட்டுமின்றி, தமிழக சட்ட மன்றமே இது தொடர்பாக இரு முறை ஒருமனதாகத் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றி அனுப்பியதுடன், தற்போது 'ஐயகோ' தீர்மானத்தையும் அனுப்பியிருக்கிறது!

இவ்வளவுக்குப் பின்னும், போர்நிறுத்தப் போக்கில் டெல்லி அரசு எந்த நடவடிக்கையும் மேற் கொள்ளவில்லை; சிங்கள அரசுக்கு அளித்துவந்த ராணுவ உதவிகளையும் படைப் பயிற்சிகளையும் நிறுத்த வில்லை.

இதற்குக் காரணம், டெல்லி அரசின் அயலுறவுக் கொள்கையும் அது சார்ந்த இலங்கையுடனான இந்திய அரசின் அணுகுமுறையும்தான். இந்த அணுகுமுறையை மாற்றியமைக்கக் கூடிய வகையில் தமிழக அரசியல் கட்சிகள் ஒற்றுமையின்றித் தங்களுக்குள்ளே போட்டி போட்டுக்கொண்டு டெல்லி அரசுக்குக் காவடி தூக்குவது என்பது பலரும் அறிந்த செய்தி.

இதனால்தான் போரை நிறுத்த முன்வராத டெல்லி அரசு, வாரக்கட்டளை போல் தமிழக மீனவர்கள் சிங்களக் கடற்படையால் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்படும்போது, அவர்களைக் காப்பாற்ற முயற்சிக்கவில்லை!

மொத்தத்தில், தன் சொந்த நாட்டில் உள்ள ஆறரை கோடித் தமிழர்களைப் பற்றிக் கவலைப்படாமல்... அவர் களுடைய உணர்வுகளை மதிக்காமல்... தன் ஆதிக்க நலனுக்காக அண்டை நாட்டில் உள்ள ஒன்றரை கோடி சிங்களவருக்கு அடியாள் சேவகம் செய்வதையே தன் கொள்கையாகக்கொண்டு இயங்கி வருகிறது டெல்லி அரசு.

இப்படிப்பட்ட சூழலில் தமிழக மக்களின் மனநிலை, அவர்களின் கொதிநிலை எப்படிப்பட்டதாக இருக்கும்... இருக்கிறது?

ஊர் உலகமெல்லாம் இதுபோன்று உரிமைகளுக்காகப் போராடிய மக்களுக்கு நாம் எவ்வளவோ உதவினோம். ஆனால், நம் கண்ணெதிரில் கூப்பிடு தூரத்தில் வதை படும் தொப்புள்கொடி உறவுகளுக்கு எந்த வகையிலும் உதவி செய்ய முடியாமல் கைகளும் கட்டப்பட்டு, வாய்ப்பூட்டும் போடப்பட்டவர்களாக இருக்கிறோமே என்கிற ஆதங்கம், வேதனை தமிழக மக்களிடையே நிலவுகிறது.

போராடும் மக்களுக்கு, டெல்லி அரசு தானாகவும் எதுவும் செய்யாமல்... தங்களையும் எதுவும் செய்ய விடாமல்... சிங்கள அரசின் கொலை பாதகச் செய லுக்குத் துணை போகிறதே என்கிற மனக்குமுறலும், இம்மனக்குமுறலில் தமிழகம் இறையாண்மை மிக்க ஒரு தேசமாக, தனக்கென்று சுதந்திரமான அரசமைப்புச் சட்டமும் படையும்கொண்ட ஒரு நாடாக இருந்திருந்தால், இந்நேரம் ஈழ மக்களுக்கு நம் விருப்பம் போல் உதவலாமே... தமிழக மீனவர்களையும் காப்பாற்றலாமே என்கிற ஆதங்கமும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

எனவே, டெல்லி அரசு இதை கவனத்தில்கொண்டு சும்மா மேம்போக்காக இதை 'தேசத்துரோகம்', 'பிரிவினை வாதம்' என்று குற்றம்சாட்ட முயலாமல்... இதற்கான வித்து எது, எங்கிருந்து இவ்வுணர்வுகள் உதிக்கின்றன என்பதைக் கண்டறிந்து, அதைக் களைய முற்படவேண்டும் என்பதே நம் வேண்டுகோள்.

இலங்கை இனவெறி அரசை முழு மூச்சோடு ஆதரிக் கும் இந்தியா, இலங்கையில் ஈழத்தின் வரலாற்றைச் சற்றுப் பின்னோக்கிப் பார்த்து, சில செய்திகளைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். 1948-ல் அதிகாரம் கைக்கு வரப்பெற்ற சிங்களர்கள் படிப்படியான நடவடிக்கைகள் மூலம் தமிழின ஒடுக்குமுறையை மேற்கொண்டு, 1970-ல் தரப்படுத்தல் திட்டம் கொண்டுவந்து தமிழக இளைஞர்களின் கல்வி, வேலைவாய்ப்பைப் பறித்தபோது தொடங்கப்பட்டதுதான் 'தமிழ் மாணவர் பேரவை.'

அவ்வமைப்பு அமைதி வழியில் நடத்திய பல போராட் டங்களை சிங்கள அரசு ஆயுதப்படை கொண்டு குரூரமாக ஒடுக்கியதன் விளைவாக, அம்மாணவர்களிலிருந்து பதிலுக்கு ஆயுதம் ஏந்திப் போராடுவதைத் தவிர தங்களுக்கு வேறு வழியில்லை என்கிற முடிவில் தோற்றம் பெற்றவைதான் போராளி அமைப்புகள்.

இன்று அப்போராளிகள் அமைப்பை ஒடுக்க இலங்கை அரசுக்கு டெல்லி அரசு உதவலாம். தற்காலிகமாக அதில் வெற்றியும் பெறலாம். ஆனால் போராளிகளை, போராட்ட உணர்வை முற்றிலுமாக ஒழித்துவிட முடியாது என்பது தெளிவு. காரணம், போராட்டங்களுக்கான புறக்காரணங்கள் நிலவும் வரை... அது ஏதாவதொரு வடிவில் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் புத்துயிர் பெற்று எழும், தொடரும் என்பதே அறிவியல்.

எனவே, தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட் டத்தை முற்றாக அழித்தொழித்துவிட முடியாது. இந்திய அரசு இன்று இலங்கை அரசுக்குச் செய்துவரும் உதவிகளுக்காக, இலங்கை அரசு என்றென் றைக்கும் டெல்லிக்கு விசுவாசமாகவே இருந்து விடாது. மாறாக, அது எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் பாகிஸ் தானோடோ, சீனாவோடோ கைகோத்து இந்தியாவை எதிர்க்கும் என்பதையும் டெல்லி ஆட்சியாளர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ளவேண்டும்.

டெல்லி அரசின் மெத்தனப் போக்கால், 'தமிழகமும் தமிழக மக்களும் இந்தியாவின் ஓர் அங்கமா இல்லையா? நம் உணர்வுகளை மதிக்காமல் டெல்லி ஏன் இப்படி இனப் பகையோடு நடந்துகொள்கிறது? ஒருவேளை தமிழகமோ, தமிழர்களோ இந்தியாவில் வேண்டாம் என்று டெல்லி அரசு கருதுகிறதா?' என்பது போன்ற சந்தேகங்களும் இப்போது தமிழ் மக்களிடையே எழுந்திருப்பதை ஆட்சியாளர்கள் உணரவேண்டும்.

'பிற மாநில மக்களுக்கெல்லாம் ஏதாவது பாதிப்பு என்றால் உடனுக்குடன் தலையிடும் டெல்லி, தமிழர் பிரச்னை என்றால் மட்டும் - அது நதிநீர்ப் பிரச்னையோ வேறு எதுவோ - மெத்தனமாக இருக்கிறதே... அல்லது எதிராகவே செயல்படுகிறதே' என்கிற எண்ணம் தமிழக மக்கள் மத்தியில் ஆழமாக வேரூன்றியுள்ளது.

இந்த உணர்வை அலட்சியப்படுத்தினால், காலப்போக்கில் இது, டெல்லி அரசின்பால் என்றென் றைக்கும் மாறாத, காயம் ஆறினா லும் வடு மறையாத தீராத இனப்பகையை உருவாக்கிவிடும். இது தமிழர் களை டெல்லிக்கு எதிராகக் கோபாவேசத்தோடு களமிறங்கிப் போராடவைக்கும்.

இப்படிப்பட்ட போராட்டங்களை வன்முறை கொண்டு ஒடுக்கிவிடலாம் என்று அரசு நினைத்தால், அந்த எண்ணம் ஈடேறாது. ஈழத்தில் அமைதி வழியில் போராடிய மக்கள், சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்கள் அவிழ்த்து விட்ட அடக்குமுறைக்கு எதிராக ஆயுதம் ஏந்தும் நிலைக்குத் தள்ளப்பட்டதைப் போல் தமிழர்களும் தள்ளப்படமாட்டார்கள் என்பதற்கு எந்த உத்தரவாதமும் இல்லை.

எனவே, சாரமாக டெல்லிக்கு நாம் உணர்த்த விரும்புவது இதுதான்.

2. டெல்லி அரசு தமிழீழத்தில் சிங்கள அரசுக்கு ஆதரவளித்துப் போராளிகளை ஒடுக்க முயன்றால், நாளை தமிழகத்திலும் அது போன்ற போராளிகள் உருவாகித் தங்களுக்குள் ஒன்றிணைய முயல்வார்கள்.

இது ஏதோ மிரட்டலோ அச்சுறுத்தலோ மேடைப் பேச்சுகளில் கைதட்டல்களுக்காக முழங்கப்படும் வீர வசனங்களோ அல்ல. இது ஓர் அறிவியல் கோட்பாடு. உண்மை. அந்த வகையில் இது, இந்திய ஆட்சியாளர்களுக்கான அறிவுறுத்தல்.

இந்த உண்மையை ஆட்சியாளர்கள் உணரவேண்டும். ஏற்கெனவே வடக்கே காஷ்மீர், வடகிழக்கே நாகாலாந்து, மணிப்பூர், அஸ்ஸாம், மிசோராம், திரிபுரா முதலானவை டெல்லிக்குத் தலைவலியாக இருந்துவருகின்றன. அந்த வரிசையில் தமிழகமும் ஒரு தலைவலியாக மாறவேண்டுமா என்பதை, ஆட்சியாளர்கள் சிந்திக்கவேண்டும். இலங்கையில் ஈழம் போல், இந்தியாவிலும் ஒரு தமிழகம் உருவாவதைத் தடுக்க டெல்லி உடனடியாகப் போர்நிறுத்த நடவடிக்கையை மேற்கொள்ளவேண்டும்!

தமிழக மக்களிடத்தில் ஈழ ஆதரவு மேலோங்கி வரும் இந்நிலையில் அதை கெடுக்கும் வகையில் தமிழின விரோத மற்றும் துரோக சக்திகள் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப்போராட்டத்தினை கொச்சைப்படுத்தியும் தமிழக மக்களின் ஆதரவை திசை திருப்பியும் தமிழ்மக்களது எழுச்சியை கெடுக்கும் வேலையிலும் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.

அக்டோபர் முதல் வாரத்தில் அதாவது இந்திய கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சி முன் முயற்சியால் அக்.2 ஆம் தேதி அனைத்துக் கட்சியினர் நடத்திய உண்ணாவிரதத்துக்குப் பிறகு மயிலை மாங்கொல்லையில் முதல்வர் கலைஞர் கருணாநிதி தி.மு.க. கூட்டத்தைக் கூட்டி, மத்திய அரசுக்கு எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்தார். என்ன கூறினார்? ஈழத்தில் போர் நிறுத்தம் செய்ய மத்திய அரசு வலியுறுத்த வேண்டும். இரண்டு வார கெடுவுக்குள் போர் நிறுத்தம் வரா விட்டால், நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப் பினர்கள் பதவி விலகுவார்கள் என்றார். தொடர்ந்து, தி.மு.க. நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் பலரும், தங்கள் பதவி விலகல் கடிதத்தை முன் கூட்டியே கலைஞரிடம் தரத் தொடங்கினர்.

மனிதச் சங்கிலி போராட்டம் நடத்தி, இதே கோரிக்கை வலியுறுத்தப் பட்டது. அதற்கும் மத்திய அரசு அசையவில்லை. அனைத்துக் கட்சி கூட்டத்தைக் கூட்டினார். மீண்டும் போர் நிறுத்தம் வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது. வெளிநாட்டுத் துறை அமைச்சர் பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி இலங்கைக்கு சென்று போர் நிறுத்தத்தை வலியுறுத்த வற் புறுத்தப்பட்டது. முதல்வரை சந்திக்க சென்னை வந்த பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி யிடமும் நேரில் வலியுறுத்தப்பட்டது. பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி இலங்கை போக வில்லை. நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் பதவி விலகலுக்கான கெடு முடிந்ததும், அத்திட்டம் கைவிடப்பட்டது. அனைத்துக் கட்சியினரை அழைத்துக் கொண்டு முதல்வர் டெல்லி போய் பிரதமர் மன்மோகன்சிங்கை சந்தித்து நேரில் வற்புறுத்தினார். எந்தத் துரும்பும் அசையவில்லை. ராணுவத்தின் இனப் படுகொலை தொடர்ந்து கொண்டே இருந்தது; மேலும் மேலும் தீவிர மானது.

கிளிநொச்சியை ராணுவம் பிடித்தது. 3 லட்சம் மக்கள் விடுதலைப்புலி களோடு முல்லைத் தீவுக்கு இடம் பெயர்ந்தனர். முல்லைத் தீவையும் ராணுவம் சுற்றி வளைத்து குண்டுகளை வீசி வருகிறது. ஷெல் தாக்குதலை நடத்தி வருகிறது. உணவு, மருந்து பொருள்கள் இல்லை. 'போரில்லாத பகுதியாக' ராணுவம் அறிவித்தப் பகுதியிலும் குண்டு வீச்சு, ஷெல் வீச்சு தொடருகிறது. புதுக் குடியிருப்பில் உள்ள தற்காலிக மருத்துவமனை மீதே குண்டுகளை வீசி நோயாளிகளை பிணமாக்கியது சிங்கள ராணுவம். எங்கும் தமிழனின் மரண ஓலங்கள்; ரத்தவாடைகள்; பிணக் குவியல்கள்.

அய்.நா.வே போரை நிறுத்தக் கோரி தனது தூதுவரை போர் முனைக்கு நேரே அனுப்புகிறது. அமெரிக்க வெளியுறவுத் துறை அமைச்சர் ஹிலாரி கிளிண்டனும், பிரிட்டன் வெளியுறவுத் துறை அமைச்சர் டேவிட் மிலிபேண்ட் என்பவரும் கூட்டாக இணைந்து போரை நிறுத்தக் கோரி அறிக்கை விடுத்தனர். ஜப்பான், நார்வே, ஜெர்மன் நாடுகளும் போரை நிறுத்துமாறு வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்தன. உலக நாடு களின் கோரிக்கையை ஏற்க முடியாது என்று, ராஜபக்சேயின் தம்பியும், ராணுவ செயலாளருமான கோத்தபய ராஜபக்சே அறிவித்து விட்டார். தமிழ் மக்களின் ராணுவமான விடுதலைப் புலிகள், தற்காப்பு யுத்தம் நடத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். உதவிக்குச் சென்ற சர்வதேச செஞ்சிலுவை சங்கத் தின் வாகனங்கள் மீதும், மருத்துவ மனைகள் மீதும் ராணுவம் குண்டு வீச்சு நடத்துகிறது. அய்.நா.வின் பிரதிநிதி களே போர்முனைப் பகுதிகளில் குண்டு வீச்சு காயங்களுக்கு உள்ளாகி விட்டனர்.

சர்வதேசமுமே கண்டிக்கும் இந்த இனப் படுகொலையைக் கண்டித்து, போரை நிறுத்தச் சொல்லாத நாடு இந்தியா தான். அதுவும் தமிழகத்தின் ஒருமித்த வேண்டுகோள், போராட்டங் களை அலட்சியப்படுத்தி, ஆணவச் சிரிப்பு சிரித்து வருகிறது. இவ்வளவுக் கும் பிறகும் இந்தியாவைக் கண்டித்தால் - ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் நடக்கும் இனப் படுகொலையைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தக் கோரினால் - சிங்கள இனப்படு கொலைக்கு எதிரான குமுறலை தி.மு.க. ஆட்சிக்கு எதிரான 'அரசியல்' என்கிறது - தி.மு.க. தலைமை!

"மத்திய அரசை எதிர்க்கவே கூடாது; தொடர்ந்து வலியுறுத்த வேண்டும்" என்று மீண்டும் தோல்வி கண்ட "வலியுறுத்தல்" பாதையிலேயே பயணம் செய்ய கலைஞர் கருணாநிதி அழைக்கிறார். தி.மு.க., காங்கிரஸ் கூட்டணி நீடிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற அற்ப அரசியல் லாபத்துக்காக அன்றாடம் நடக்கும் "இனப் படுகொலை"யை எதிர்த்துப் போராடக் கூடாது என்கிறார்கள்.

மத்திய அரசு - இனப்படு கொலையை தடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று மனம் திருந்தும் காலம் வரை காத் திருக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறார்கள். தி.மு.க. உருவாக்கியுள்ள 'இலங்கைத் தமிழர் நல உரிமைப் பேரவை' நடத்தியுள்ள கூட்டத்தில் அக்கட்சியின் பொதுச் செயலாளர் பேராசிரியர் அன்பழகன் இவ்வாறு பேசியுள்ளார்:

"நம்முடைய குரலை, நம்முடைய வார்த்தையை அவர்கள் மதிப்பார்களா என்பதையெல்லாம் எண்ணிப் பார்த்தால் நம்முடைய நன்மைக்காகத் தான் தமிழ் நாட்டில் கலைஞருடைய ஆட்சி எப்படி இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று கருதுகிறோமோ, அப்படித்தான் டெல்லி யிலே சோனியாகாந்தி வழிகாட்டு தலிலேயே மன்மோகன்சிங் அரசு நீடிக்க வேண்டுமென்று விரும்புகிறோம்" என்று பேசியுள்ளார் ('முரசொலி' பிப்.10)

'தமிழர் நல உரிமைப் பேரவை' என்ற பெயரில் நடைபெறும் கூட்டங் களில் 'தி.மு.க. கூட்டணி நலன்கள்தான்' முன்னிறுத்தப்படுகிறதே தவிர, ஈழத் தமிழர் இனப் படுகொலை பற்றியோ இந்தியாவின் துரோகம் பற்றியோ சிங்கள அரசை கண்டித்தோ, கருத்துகள் முன் வைக்கப்படுவதில்லை. இதை பேராசிரியர் அன்பழகனே, தனது உரையில் ஒப்புக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்.

"இங்கே பேசிய நண்பர்கள்.... வருங்காலத்திலேகூட தமிழகத்திலே கலைஞருடைய கையைத்தான் வலி யுறுத்த வேண்டும். தேர்தலிலே ஏமாந்து விடக் கூடாது என்பதை யெல்லாம் எடுத்துச் சொன் னார்கள். அது ஓரளவுக்கு அரசியல் தான். அந்த அரசியலை கழகம் சார்பாக இன்றைக்கு நான் பேசத் தயாராக இல்லை" ('முரசொலி' பிப்.10)

- என்று பேசியிருப்பதன் மூலம், "இலங்கைத் தமிழர் நல உரிமைப் பேரவையின் பரப்புரை எப்படி நடக்கிறது என்பதை அவரே வெளிப் படுத்தியுள்ளார். அப்படிப் பேசிய பேராசிரியர் அன்பழகனோ முடிவில் எதைப்பேச மாட்டேன் என்றாரோ, அதே அரசியலைத்தான் அவரும் வலியுறுத்தியும் உள்ளார்.

   Now the actual war is not only with Guns and tanks, but its a "well planned false propaganda" against Tamils to quench their protests all over.

   We need to be very careful that even these forces camouflage as a "well wishers" and "intending to help" Tamils (Alas! even these traitors are speaking Tamil as their mother-tongue) if we could identify these "Ettappans" then no "kattapans" will be killed.

  As long as those abetting this crime of Genocide against Tamil are there, how do you think that we could go against "forces who actually act" on those scripted versus. 

  How come a force of small number (around 1000s as per Srilankan president and ponseka) of LTTEs could forcefully keep these 3,50,000 people confined to 250 sqkm area?. Is everybody around here a fool?.

  Here in india, where there is a conductive environment for a government having large police force and other means could hardly quench the outbreak of people spontaneously coming out to streets in support of Eelam Tamils. Our politicans were hellbound to divert the spontaneous demonstrations either hook or crook methods.LTTE is a banned organisation, who in Tamilnadu doesn't know?. But who is fighting for Tamils in Eelam?. while there are traitors like Karuna, Devanada and pillian who wag their tails for the meagre money that is thrown to them. 

 If here in Tamilnadu, our very only one so called "world tamil leader" ,threaten people for speaking for Eelam and LTTE and put people jail merely voicing their opinion on stages. what one could say about these hardliners in srilanka viz., jatika hela urmya.

 As long as we have "Ettapans" like cho,Ram,Jeyalalitha, Karunanidhi, Entire congress morons on our side, why don't these sinhalese get bold?.

 DMK having cabinet ministers in its chest, never ever thought of using its force to coerce Federal government to put an end this Genocidal war. But isn't it foolish to go to Federal government, while actually it is the one which waged this proxy war against Tamils and in particular LTTE, that is one of the reasons it shows deafen ear to all the pleas from TN.

Another important point would be that DMK never ever came in public record against Federal Government and also it never revealed to TN people that what India's share in ongoing war in Srilanka.

We may say that we would teach a good lesson to all these politicians during elections.but we fail to see that they are not showing even iota of worry about it, because they know what this electoral process is all about.

Even today, to martyr Muthukurmaran, who came and paid respect? any DMK or ADMK politicians?. Each political party has its own agenda of their own in this conflict, I would blame all politicians for dragging this issue to this level,where one Muthukumaran has to come as a martyr to invoke so far smouldering emotion to new high.

What do we do anyway? what more could we go? nobody knows....atleast for myself, I have already decided to reject these political parties which have acted against our sentiments. I now feel really ashamed to call myself as an Indian, for India which always upholds and preach "peace" to outside world but in reality it cowardly and subtle manner does all heinous acts.

Why should there be such double games? I had Sonia in high regard when she could boldly meet Nalini. But now I know its just to show the world that SHE IS GOOD HEARTED but inturn having all maligious intentions and go to the extend of taking revenge by having thousands of innocent life taken.

Here is a Holy cow which has now given an ultimatum of 48 hours to ensure safety of Tamils, meanwhile having taken all measures to kill and exterminate youngsters both girls and boys so that the possibility of them turning "LTTE cadre" and go against sinhalese is neutralised. what a noble intend to have announced "safe zone" to trap people there to kill them en masse. 

If you carefully go through the statement of ultimatum it implicitly cites that people who have chosen to remain there would be killed by intensified usage of boms and shells. now who would raise a voice for those people who have chosen to be in vanni? for they had been given a choice to choose and people have chosen to die, hence he gets all right to kill them.

Why not any Human right organisation files a Genocidal case against these guys and try them in international court?.why all media which always make hue and cry for even a single spate of incident has turned its face?.

 Why not we as youngsters start a "movement" to expose these corrupt politicians? why not we shun these traitors entering into active politics? why not we reject those medias who have gone against us?.As for me, I no longer reading "newspapers" such as Hindu,dinamalar etc.And also have decided not to vote to these spineless politicians.

We should also start a movement to have a reform in electoral process, asking for NEGATIVE VOTING etc.?

Could we do that?

Srilankan Genocide - premeditated ???

Almost it has become a "Daily news" that mass killing is happening in srilanka by bombing and shelling. And the intent of genocide is very evident in all the time. Indiscriminate bombing on "safe zones" which actually designated by Government was bombed by the very Govt forces, What do you say about it? doesn't it qualify to expose the malicious intent of SL Govt?.

When Govt forcefully evacuated all the humanitarian organisations out of the war zone, henceforth to gain the upper hand of the situation by blacking out the happenings around from foreign eyes?.

If a Govt is NOT allowing UN to function in the war zone? what more do you need to understand the intention?. It is crystal clear, how SL govt tries to silent media trying to bring them to their knees either by threatening them or killing them.

All who talk against "terrorism" should also think that even "state sponsored terrorisms" should be abolished. If LTTE is a terrorist organisation, what about Srilankan Government, is it not doing the very thing it proclaims to fight against? 

If LTTE could fight for 25+ years, is it not with the blessings of Eelam tamils?. should Eelam tamils be labelled as terrorists as they support a so called terrorist organisation?. What do we call then of India,US,China,pakistan and Japan who also assist this Genocidal war?. I would even go to the extend of blaming UN for this matter, because UN just can't wait for right time to act. We know how UN is also influenced by these co-chaired nations. 

Did any country condemn when Srilankan government shunned all the humanitarian organisations and NGOs out of warzone and even independant medias to these warzone. Why did all shut their holy mouth?.

Should tamils always need to struggle to get a voice from these organisations?. What one would say about it, for having announced a "safe zone" and then bomb the very place to kill people?. Srilankan government and other co-chairs may have fooled the world so far, but the time has come for truth to be naked. how long could they silence the voices?.

As against the international Law, bombs are being dropped on schools,hospitals,churches and so on. Nobody bothered to raise their concerns. In the name of fighting LTTE, why should they targent civilians?.

Lot of questions, no answers. Only way to get it, to initiate a case of Genocide against all these perpetrators and try them in international court.For all these a day would come for them to answer.

All we could do is to bring the day nearer as early as possible.

WAR (on Terror ??? ), patriotism and politics

I think following quote would fit to current situations in India, Pak and Srilanka...

Srilankan situation exactly fits here, recently Srilankan governement has come out to public for donation to support soldiers in war front.

Indian Govt and people of Tamilnadu collected materials for all IDPs in Vanni region (war zone).Likewise, In srilanka, people are asked to donate money and all essentials to be sent to srilankan army warring against LTTE.

Readers may understand that prevailing Economical turmoil around the world has taken most of the countries on the brink of bankruptcy and srilanka also one among them struggling to manage their finances well to run the country. In recent budget,177 billion has been taken out of corpus just to fight against LTTEs (5000 in number according to srilankan govt). Most of the money comes to them as AID, even recently received humanitarian aids not really been used for any humanitarian activities/developments. Few days back, EU has announced additional 2 billion to be used in vanni region for IDPs. But thankfully all these money being used to buy WMD.

Even Indian government has loaned srilanka some amount which was used to buy weapens and ships from pakistan. Role played by India in Srilankan conflict is very significant from 1970s onwards, but nothing is noteworthy. It is not only India but entire International community to be blamed in most cases.

Coming back to India, recent Mumbai attack even though has lot of questions to be answered, has exposed politicians to the angry masses of India. Now, our PM and EM started talking tough against pakistan even not ruling out military options against perpetrators.

Indian's would not have forgotten Kargil war, the kind of patriotism it fuelled into every Indians mind. No common man would understand, even if he understands, he won't be able to speak his mind out loud and clear against these political classes, because anybody who speaks against WAR and sovereignty, of course must be a traitor and not a patriotic. In whatever way and means this WAR has been put on us.

In srilanka, one of the MPs of UNP exposes the casualities of Srilankan army in recent war. other MP of UNP has to make a statement in parliament in favour of war considering upcoming elections (mahintha mulling over early elections, likely to be announced on Dec 8 2008).

Jingoism is a key word here, which is used extensively by all political classes to deceive and/or escape the wrath of people.

We common man as always fall prey to these hawkish politicians. who is going to save us from their clutches?

Opinion : Mumbai Terror

Here I found an Article voicing differently from MEDIAs that so far have been harping on MUMBAI TERROR attack, promoting the interests of theirs than what is actually expected of them as a media's responsibility.

I happened to read this article from http: //openspace.org.in , Here I am posting this article just to air a different perspective of what media did and could have played well.

Like politicians, almost everybody in power house have their own agenda to pursue, even media proves they reap maximum out of the coverage. Past 10 days, I have been following Newspapers, Articles and News channels on this coverage. most of the news channels try to put theirs words into someone's mouth and then make an issue of it.

Yesterday, I was watching "TIMES NOW", Goswami looked frustrated in a heated debate where a journalist (aamir from london) and Former Internal (?) Ministor of pakistan and G.parthasarathy (former High commissioner of pakistan) participated. He was very much frsutrated on hearing certain comments from Former minister and Aamir, It looked to me the reason for his frustruation as Goswami was trying to put some words into their mouth,which they refused to take.

In current situation, Everybody wants India to go for a WAR with Pakistan,which obviously should be a last resort in handling conflicts between two nations. Media is fueling and fanning hatred against politians (a necessary EVIL in any democracy] and trying to raise their TRP ratings.

P.S : I really hate watching TAMIL NEWS channels. Horrible... (sometimes I do watch them , as a subject of my research).

Watching at least four English news channels surfing from one anotherduring the last 60 hours of terror strike made me feel a terror ofanother kind. The terror of assaulting one's mind and sensitivity withcameras, sound bites and non-stop blabbers. All these channels havebeen trying to manufacture my consent for a big lie called - Hotel Tajthe icon of India.

Whose India, Whose Icon ?

It is a matter of great shame that these channels simply did notbother about the other icon that faced the first attack fromterrorists - the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station.CST is the true icon of Mumbai. It is through this railway stationhundreds of Indians from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengaland Tamilnadu have poured into Mumbai over the years, transformingthemselves into Mumbaikars and built the Mumbai of today along withthe Marathis and Kolis.

But the channels would not recognise this. Nor would they recognisethe thirty odd dead bodies strewn all over the platform of CST. NoBarkha dutt went there to tell us who they were. But she was at Taj toshow us the damaged furniture and reception lobby braving the guards.And the TV cameras did not go to the government run JJ hospital tofind out who those 26 unidentified bodies were. Instead they wereagain invading the battered Taj to try in vain for a scoop shot of thedead bodies of the page 3 celebrities.

In all probability, the unidentified bodies could be those of workersfrom Bihar and Uttar Pradesh migrating to Mumbai, arriving by train atCST without cell phones and pan cards to identify them. Even after 60hours after the CST massacre, no channel has bothered to cover indetail what transpired there.

The channels conveniently failed to acknowledge that the Aam Aadmis ofIndia surviving in Mumbai were not affected by Taj, Oberoi and Tridentclosing down for a couple of weeks or months. What mattered to themwas the stoppage of BEST buses and suburban trains even for one hour.But the channels were not covering that aspect of the terror attack.Such information at best merited a scroll line, while the cameras haveto be dedicated for real time thriller unfolding at Taj or Narimanbhavan.

The so called justification for the hype the channels built aroundheritage site Taj falling down (CST is also a heritage site), is thatHotel Taj is where the rich and the powerful of India and the globecongregate. It is a symbol or icon of power of money and politics, notIndia. It is the icon of the financiers and swindlers of India. TheMumbai and India were built by the Aam Aadmis who passed through CSTand Taj was the oasis of peace and privacy for those who wielded powerover these mass of labouring classes. Leopold club and Taj were thehaunts of rich spoilt kids who would drive their vehicles oversleeping Aam Aadmis on the pavement, the Mafiosi of Mumbai foreverfinancing the glitterati of Bollywood (and also the terrorists) ,Political brokers and industrialists.

It is precisely because Taj is the icon of power and not people, thatthe terrorists chose to strike.

The terrorists have understood after several efforts that the AamAadmi will never break down even if you bomb her markets and trains.He/she was resilient because that is the only way he/she can even survive.

Resilience was another word that annoyed the pundits of news channelsand their patrons this time. What resilience, enough is enough, saidPranoy Roy's channel on the left side of the channel spectrum. Samesentiments were echoed by Arnab Goswami representing the right wing ofthe broadcast media whose time is now. Can Rajdeep be far behind inthis game of one upmanship over TRPs ? They all attacked resiliencethis time. They wanted firm action from the government in tackling terror.

The same channels celebrated resilience when bombs went off in trainsand markets killing and maiming the Aam Aadmis. The resilience of theordinary worker suited the rich business class of Mumbai since work ormanufacture or film shooting did not stop. When it came to them, therich shamelessly exhibited their lack of nerves and refused to beresilient themselves. They cry for government intervention now toprotect their private spas and swimming pools and bars andrestaurants, similar to the way in which Citibank, General Motors andthe ilk cry for government money when their coffers are emptied bytheir own ideologies.

The terrorists have learnt that the ordinary Indian is unperturbed byterror. For one whose daily existence itself is a terror of governmentsponsored inflation and market sponsored exclusion, pain is somethinghe has learnt to live with. The rich of Mumbai and India Inc arefacing the pain for the first time and learning about it just as themiddle classes of India learnt about violation of human rights onlyduring emergency, a cool 28 years after independence.

And human rights were another favourite issue for the channels to whipat times of terrorism.

Arnab Goswami in an animated voice wondered where were thosechampions of human rights now, not to be seen applauding the brave andselfless police officers who gave up their life in fighting terorism.Well, the counter question would be where were you when such officerswere violating the human rights of Aam Aadmis. Has there ever been any24 hour non stop coverage of violence against dalits and adivasis ofthis country?

This definitely was not the time to manufacture consent for the extralegal and third degree methods of interrogation of police and army butArnabs don't miss a single opportunity to serve their class masters,this time the jingoistic patriotism came in handy to whitewash theentire uniformed services.

The sacrifice of the commandos or the police officers who went downdying at the hands of ruthless terrorists is no doubt heart rendingbut in vain in a situation which needed not just bran but also brain.Israel has a point when it says the operations were misplannedresulting in the death of its nationals here.

Khakares and Salaskars would not be dead if they did not commit themistake of traveling by the same vehicle. It is a basic lesson inmanagement that the top brass should never t ravel together in crisis.The terrorists, if only they had watched the channels, would havelaughed their hearts out when the Chief of the Marine commandos, anelite force, masking his face so unprofessionally in a see-throughcloth, told the media that the commandos had no idea about thestructure of the Hotel Taj which they were trying to liberate. But theterrorists knew the place thoroughly, he acknowledged.

Is it so difficult to obtain a ground plan of Hotel Taj and discussoperation strategy thoroughly for at least one hour before entering?This is something even an event manager would first ask for, if he hadto fix 25 audio systems and 50 CCtvs for a cultural event in a hotel.Would not Ratan Tata have provided a plan of his ancestral hotel tothe commandos within one hour considering the mighty apparatus at hisand government's disposal? Are satelite pictures only available forterrorists and not the government agencies ? In an operation known toconsume time, one more hour for preparation would have only improvedthe efficiency of execution.

Sacrifices become doubly tragic in unprofessional circumstances. Butthe Aam Aadmis always believe that terror-shooters do better planningthan terrorists. And the gullible media in a jingoistic mood would notraise any question about any of these issues.

They after all have their favourite whipping boy - the politician theeternal entertainer for the non-voting rich classes of India.

Arnabs and Rajdeeps would wax eloquent on Nanmohan Singh and Advanivisiting Mumbai separately and not together showing solidarity even atthis hour of national crisis. What a farce? Why can't these channelspool together all their camera crew and reporters at this time ofnational calamity and share the sound and visual bites which couldmean a wider and deeper coverage of events with such a huge humanresource to command? Why should Arnab and Rajdeep and Barkha keepharping every five minutes that this piece of information wasexclusive to their channel, at the time of such a national crisis? Isthis the time to promote the channel? If that is valid, the politicianpromoting his own political constituency is equally valid. And theduty of the politican is to do politics, his politics.

It is for thepeople to evaluate that politics.And terrorism is not above politics.

It is politics by other means.To come to grips with it and to eventually eliminate it, the practiceof politics by proper means needs constant fine tuning andimprovement. Decrying all politics and politicians, only helpsterrorists and dictators who are the two sides of the same coin. Andthe rich and powerful always prefer terrorists and dictators to dobusiness with.

Those caught in this crossfire are always the Aam Aadmis whose deathsare not even mourned - the taxi driver who lost the entire family atCST firing, the numerous waiters and stewards who lost their livesworking in Taj for a monthly salary that would be one time bill fortheir masters.

Postscript 1: In a fit of anger and depression, I sent a message to allthe channels, 30 hours through the coverage. After all they have beenconstantly asking the viewers to message them for anything andeverything. My message read: I send this with lots of pain. Allchannels, including yours, must apologise for not covering the victimsof CST massacre, the real mumbaikars and aam aadmis of India. Yourobsession with five star elite is disgusting. Learn from the printmedia please. No channel bothered. Only srinivasan Jain replied: youare right. We are trying to redress balance today. Well, nothinghappened till the time of writing this 66 hours after the terrorattack.

Postscript 2: the only relief in the three day coverage was all the anchors and reporters did NOT say Islamic or muslim terrorists anymore though they knew that the terrorists were muslims sent from Pakistan. Must be thanks to Malegaon.
